My Casket

The casket was filled with rust

old from centuries accumulated

silver, gold, diamonds, copper, iron

The riches of men, giants, elves

long dead, past prime, legends dust

and caskets, made for death

Golden leaves piled upon you now

as summer dies, and autumn

encroaches in, silent and death

Dreams long past forgotten

covered in mist, in frayed ribbon

cracked broken swords on shields

Test me, offer me life's question

search my spirit, my soul mind

Absolution be my bed, my grave.

An Empty Sun

An Empty Sun

This morning I slid the narrow edge of a razor across

my wrists...

my blood was warm, moving with deliberate caution

across my arms and onto the bed

it was so dark... dark and red.

I was amazed at how it flowed

like a flower growing its petals,

after the spring rains

This morning the sun came up

like a villain in the movies

running over the crest of a hill

bathing my world in speed and a sudden

rush of air, pushing the clouds to the east,

a white comforter being thrown back.

My head is draining, sleep is easy, it's all ephemeral now.

I can feel the cold breath of the dead pulling at

my Judas spirit.

Meditation is out, prayer is dead,

family is lost, nations crumble at my feet,

DNA is polluted, bones are infected.

God is on Sabbatical.

Only my blood, my empty veins

and the sun remain.

I Keenly Remember

I keenly remember
they sat at a corner table
by a window
with the sun and the moon
shining in...
they were dressed in ocher and amber
speaking the occult
and living in the hidden
the mysterious...
Caution blew in with the wind
and joined in their babble
Time exploded in anger
and left the room
frothing at the mouth
and spitting venom
all the while
the spider waits
